Ron
Haan -
Founder and CEO
Ron
began his career as a salesman for Tymshare, Inc. in 1972 after graduating
from college. He graduated from Carnegie-Mellon University with a
bachelor's degree in Economics where he served as President the student
body. At Tymshare, Ron became the leading salesman in the computer
timesharing company, selling software to the Bell Telephone Operating
Companies. Shortly thereafter, a new branch was created for him at
Tymshare to focus on this vertical niche.
In 1977, Ron left Tymshare to form his own company which developed
software applications for the Regional Bell Operating Companies.
He operated this company, Telic Services Corporation (Telic), at
a 15-20 percent profit margin for 14 years before selling the company
to Computer Sciences Corporation.
In 1987, Ron purchased a start-up telecommunications company called
National Telephone Services Inc. (NTS). He recruited the entire executive
management team for NTS and grew the company's annual revenue from
$3 million to $200 million in three years. NTS turned profitable
in 1989 and was sold by Ron in October of 1990.
In 1992, Ron invested in International Telecharge Inc., a public,
long distance operator service's company. At the time of Ron's investment,
the company had operated at a loss for six years and had accumulated
an $80 million negative net-worth. Ron took the company private,
restructured the debt, hired new management and created the only
company in the industry with earnings of over $20 million per year.
Through The Haan Foundation for Children (www.haan4kids.org) , Ron and
his former wife Cynthia became involved in funding research on learning
disabilities and concluded that with appropriate focus, early testing,
and effective remediation many millions of children could be spared the
effects of untreated or poorly treated learning failure. The Haan Foundation
spearheaded an effort to vastly improve detection and treatment of learning
disabilities.
